Oranjemund is situated Just North of the Orange River Mouth and is the Southern most town on the Namibian coast. Due to strict diamond restrictions, you will need to apply for a permit to enter the town. Click here to apply for a permit .There is only one legal way to enter Oranjemund and that is via the Swartkops Access Control gate, situated at the Ernest Oppenheimer Bridge.

ARRIVING FROM SOUTH AFRICA
If you will be arriving via South Africa , you will need to drive to Steinkpf on the N7, turn Left to Port Nolloth and then right to Alexander Bay, just a mere 3 km past Alexander Bay is the South African Border. You will need a valid passport to cross into Namibia from here. The road is all tarred from this direction.
ARRIVING FROM NAMIBIA
You need to drive to Rosh Pinah. Just South of Rosh Pinah is a turnover to the Sendelings Access Control Gate. If you have applied for a permit in advance you will be allowed to drive along this scenic road to Oranjemund. About a one hour drive. Drive slowly and carefully as this is mining area. Under no circumstances may you stop and get out of your car.The road is a well maintained dirt road from Rosh Pinah.

The currency used in Oranjemund is both the Namibian Dollar and the South African Rand. They are pegged at 1:1. If you take Namibian Dollars back to South Africa and try to change them, you will have to pay comission.

It is advisable to have a ZA or NAM sticker on your car when crossing the border.
You must wear your seat belt at all times in Namibia.
